Cruising Into the Holidays

Six Days of Programs

Thanks to everyone for a great weekend! We’re always stoked to see smiling faces in groups across the mountain.

We're looking forward to seeing everyone this Friday to kick off the holiday week in style. Be sure to be on snow by 8:30AM, ready to go.

If your child will be late, or if they are leaving early, please let your child's coach or Joe Weeks know.

Holiday Schedule

Programs will run full days from December 26 to December 31 (8:30AM-3:00PM). There will be no programs on Thursday, January 1 or Friday, January 2. January 3–4 will be a normal weekend schedule.

If your child will missing any days during vacation week, please be sure to let Joe Weeks know as soon as possible, to help us forecast staffing needs.

Check program pages for details:

Don't Be Late

Please drop off your child promptly at their on-snow location, fully dressed including boots, and ready to shred. Late drop-offs are difficult to accommodate, and may need to wait until lunch to connect with their group.

Comp Team Update

Coaches were happy to report that all groups had a very successful weekend of training. Athletes are gearing up for a stacked winter of USASA and Loon events. Attendance is important! Be sure to be on snow, ready to go at 8:30AM each day for training.

Keep in mind, some events sell out quickly. Be sure to register well in advance for any event that your athlete wants to participate in.

IFSA Info Session | January 11

Joe Weeks will host an IFSA information session on Sunday, January 11 at 1:30PM. Athletes and parents will have a chance to learn more about the organization, events, and requirements.

As a reminder, if your child is interested in participating in the IFSA event at Sunday River on February 14, let Joe know, and attend this information session with your child.

Details on registration and memberships will be shared soon.

PEEPs Park | December 28

The Loon Mountain Parks crew is hosting a pop-up PEEPs (Park Etiquette and Education Program) event in Little Sister on Sunday, December 28.

This is a great opportunity for kids in all programs to get familiar with terrain park safety and etiquette, and have a great time on snow with their groups.

Kids will be eligible for prizes for tricks and answering questions about park safety.

Tips for Success

Check these tips to make the most of the season.

The Essentials

  • Skis, Boards & Boots: Kids grow quickly. Make sure equipment fits, and boots fit bindings properly before the season starts. Loon Mountain Sports Tuning Center can help you out.
  • Mark Gear: Mark your child's gear with their name. You'd be amazed how many skis and boots look alike.
  • Poles: Scouts do not use poles. Please speak with your coach about poles for Development Team members.
  • Have the Right Pass?
Be sure your child has their pass and it is active.

Pass Checker

Here's a handy way to see when your pass is valid.

To Verify:

  1. Click through to the Pass Checker
  2. Enter the pass number in the lower right corner of the back of your pass
  3. Enter the date you intend to use your pass

Dress For Success

New England weather is changeable, and it's good to be prepared. Groups go out in all weather. Please check the forecast.

  • Helmet & Goggles: Not required, but highly recommended
  • Jacket & Snow Pants: Waterproof/water-resistant outerwear is key to comfort.
  • Long Underwear, Socks & Layers: Best to have extras on hand
  • Mittens, Gloves, Neck Warmers: It's personal preference, but most people find mittens to be warmer. Don't forget a neck warmer.

In the Bag

It's always a good idea to pack extra items in your child's bag. Having these items handy when needed goes a long way to your child being comfortable in their sessions. Leave the bag with your child's coach, who will make it easily available. Please keep these things in your child's bag:

  • Hand and toe warmers
  • Extra gloves or mittens
  • Extra neck warmers or balaclavas
  • Extra layers
  • Extra socks
  • Extra undergarments and outerwear for youngsters
