Introducing Freeride Training at Loon
For guests interested in joining in competing in freeride competitions, we’re excited to share a new discipline added to the Competition Team starting in 2026/27. Starting next winter, we’ll have IFSA‑certified ski and snowboard coaches dedicated to helping young athletes build the skills and confidence they need to thrive in freeride terrain.
What to Expect
Coaching will guide athletes through:
- Full‑run training that mirrors IFSA‑style courses when conditions are prime
- Skill‑building drills on lower‑snow days that translate directly to freeride performance
- Support at competitions, with coaches traveling to three IFSA events throughout the season—including the IFSA Junior Championships, which athletes can qualify for by competing in at least one junior event
For 2026/27 season, our plan is to attend:
- A Junior event at Jay Peak
- A Junior event at Sunday River
- The IFSA Junior Championship at Jay Peak
Who Can Join Competition Team?
Athletes 8 and older are welcome with approval from Joe Weeks.
Additional IFSA resources and links will be added soon to the Loon Competition Team page so families can easily explore events, rules, and membership requirements.
Feeride Intro Event – March 14
To give athletes a feel for what freeride is all about, we’re hosting a fun, low‑pressure intro event for current Dev and Comp Team members. This will take place on Picaroon, Triple Trouble or Upper Northstar and will mimic a real freeride course.
- The trail will be closed for the event
- Kids will drop one at a time, just like competition
- Coaches will be stationed at the top and bottom offering support, feedback, and a whole lot of encouragement
USASA Nationals
We're a few weeks away from packing the bags and heading to Colorado for Nationals. If you’re planning to attend and have not spoken with Joe or your athletes coach, please do so as soon as possible. Registration is currently open for all competitions and closes Monday, March 16.
Please do not miss registration. You will not be able to register late or the day of competition.
