18+ Inches of Snow This Week

Did you brave the cold last weekend? We appreciate all attendees bundling up and braving the elements. East coast skiers and riders are the toughest around, as they say.

We're looking ahead to this coming weekend, and it’s shaping up to be a good one. The mountain picked up 18” of snow in the past 48 hours, terrain is skiing prime, and there’s ample opportunity to get in the trees and explore something new. Your coaches will keep working on new drills to keep building new skills, but they’re going to make sure to do some fun skiing and riding too.

Competition teams had a successful weekend on snow. Thank you all for participating in the practice competition. It had a positive impact on results at the Slopestyle on Sunday. There were 17 athletes on the podium, and eight Loon athletes took home first place. We're stoked to see the progression taking place, keep it going. Scroll down for a full comp team update with results.

It's Still Cold

Temperatures this weekend look MUCH more favorable than last, but it’s still cold. Take a look at the tips for success down below to see what you should send your child with each day, so they can have a great day on the mountain.

Vacation Week is Coming

It may still be January, but we’re looking ahead towards February vacation week already. If you won’t be here during the week, let your child's coach know so we can appropriately plan. Some coaches may have prior commitments during the week, but your child will still have a coach and group to ski with.

There’s plenty going on around the mountain that week outside of skiing and riding, check out the Events Calendar.

Comp Team Results

Thank you to everyone who showed up and did their best at the USASA Slopestyle! We had some awesome results, 17 Loon athletes stood on the podium, and eight of them took home gold! We love to see the progression from everybody.

Loon Comp coaches, Nico, Alexis, and Justin will be meeting athletes at the next competition at Ragged Mountain on Sunday, and we will have coaches training at Loon with athletes not competing.

See Results

Keep riding the momentum. We have a busy month ahead, with an extra week of training, and lots of competitions. Be sure to register early, slots for some USASA events fill up fast.

Dress For Success

New England weather is changeable, and it's good to be prepared. Groups go out in all weather. Please check the forecast.

  • Helmet & Goggles: Not required, but highly recommended
  • Jacket & Snow Pants: Waterproof/water-resistant outerwear is key to comfort.
  • Long Underwear, Socks & Layers: Best to have extras on hand
  • Mittens, Gloves, Neck Warmers: It's personal preference, but most people find mittens to be warmer. Don't forget a neck warmer.

In the Bag

It's always a good idea to pack extra items in your child's bag. Having these items handy when needed goes a long way to your child being comfortable in their sessions. Leave the bag with your child's coach, who will make it easily available. Please keep these things in your child's bag:

  • Hand and toe warmers
  • Extra gloves or mittens
  • Extra neck warmers or balaclavas
  • Extra layers
  • Extra socks
  • Extra undergarments and outerwear for youngsters
