From Retired Gear to Everyday Carry and Beyond
Loon Launches Its First Upcycled Products with Apparel Impact
At Loon, sustainability isn’t a side project. It’s part of how we operate, evolve, and take responsibility for the places we love. we’re proud to share a new collaboration that turns retired mountain gear into thoughtfully designed products built for everyday adventure.
In partnership with Apparel Impact and The Drift Collective, Loon is launching its first upcycled designs through The Alpine Collection, a premium line of apparel and gear made entirely from reclaimed materials.
From Retired Gear to Everyday Carry and Beyond
The first product to launch is The Sling Bag, made from retired Ski and Snowboard School uniforms that were no longer wearable. Instead of sending this material to a landfill, it’s been reclaimed, redesigned, and rebuilt into something functional, durable, and designed to move.
As the collaboration grows, future products will continue to transform retired Loon gear into practical, high-quality pieces built for life both on and off the mountain.
Designed and produced by two New Hampshire based companies, Apparel Impact and The Drift Collective. Each product carries real history. No two pieces are exactly alike, because each one comes from real mountain gear that’s already lived a full season (or many) on snow.
Born on the mountain. Built for everywhere.
Meet the Partners Behind the Project
Apparel Impact is a textile reuse and recycling company focused on keeping materials in circulation longer. As the creator of The Alpine Collection, Apparel Impact manages material recovery, design direction, and impact outcomes ensuring that sustainability isn’t just a concept, but something measurable and real.
The Drift Collective, a New Hampshire-based brand rooted in responsible design and upcycling, brings The Alpine Collection designs to life. Their team designs and builds products to be practical, durable, and ready for everyday use.
The Alpine Collection is Apparel Impact’s upcycled outdoor brand, focused on premium products made from reclaimed materials. Each piece is designed to honor where it came from, while fitting seamlessly into life beyond the mountain.
Why This Matters
Most uniforms and apparel end up in landfills once they can’t be worn again. Textiles are one of the fastest growing waste streams in the U.S. By reclaiming and upcycling retired gear, Loon is keeping valuable materials in use longer and reducing the need for new raw materials, energy, and water.
This collaboration turns sustainability into something tangible — products that are functional, durable, and built to be used every day.
The Impact Behind Each Product (Estimated)
Each upcycled product helps:
- Avoid 650–900 gallons of water
(equal to 8–12 days of water use for an average U.S. household) - Avoid 45–65 pounds of CO₂ emissions
(roughly the emissions from driving 50–75 miles in a passenger vehicle) - Reduce the use of petroleum-based fibers, dyes, and chemical treatments
- Keep durable textile material out of the landfill and in active use
Sustainability, Made Practical
Reuse is the most impactful form of sustainability, and this collaboration proves that retired gear isn’t waste. It’s a resource.
By choosing to take responsibility for what happens to its gear after its usable life, Loon Mountain is setting an example of how creativity, collaboration, and action can move sustainability forward on and off the mountain.
This is just the beginning. More upcycled apparel and gear options will continue to roll out as part of The Alpine Collection.
