Loon Delivers Record-Breaking Start to Season

Leads New Hampshire with the most open trails and vertical feet of skiing.

Lincoln, NH (December 12, 2025) – Loon Mountain Resort delivers a record-breaking start to the winter, leading New Hampshire with the most open trails and vertical. Starting Saturday, the resort will have 44 open trails spanning three mountain peaks and 2,190 vertical feet of skiing and snowboarding.

Since opening for the winter season on November 21, Loon has been able to open over 60% of its total trails. “It’s hard to imagine a better start to the season,” said Brian Norton, Loon’s president and general manager. “Consistent temperatures, plus over two feet of natural snow (since opening day) have enabled us to get trails open quickly—and with quality snow. Looking back at our records to the early 2000s, we’ve never had this much terrain open this early in the season.”

Skiers and snowboarders can enjoy an additional eleven trails slated to open on Saturday, December 13—unlocking access to South Peak, Loon’s third mountain peak serviced by three chairlifts. Wednesday’s storm dropped 10 inches of natural snow, adding depth to existing snowpack and accelerating the opening of trails.

Snowmaking Powers More Trails Opening

While natural snowfall has played a role, Loon's success this season is attributed to the resort's aggressive snowmaking plan. The Mountain Operations team has maximized cold temperatures, running more than 400 snow guns during peak times—delivering consistent coverage across the mountain. Recent investments in new snowcats have also furthered the resort’s ability to deliver quality snow conditions. “I’m proud of our team for being able to maximize what Mother Nature has given us and deliver the best possible experience for our guests,” said Norton.
