Dear Media Friend,

It’s time. Over just the last few weeks, cold air snuck down from the Arctic (like always) and surprised almost everyone (like always) with the first cold winds of winter. But we weren’t surprised. We were ready.

This winter, snowmaking continues to be the lead story here at Loon. Over the summer, we were busy implementing $1.3 million in improvements that boosted Loon’s snowmaking water capacity by more than 40 percent. That increased capacity means snowmakers are able to pump more water to more snowmaking guns at any given time, allowing us to open more early-season terrain, faster than ever before.

Snowmaking efficiency also got a huge boost thanks to 100 new semi-automated snowmaking hydrants and 29 new high-efficiency, low-energy tower guns. These are just the latest in a series of investments that have transformed snowmaking at Loon; since 2010, Loon has added more than 650 low-energy tower guns to its arsenal. With this season’s improvements, our snowmakers will be able to open terrain faster in the early season, and deliver better snow all season long. Come for a visit to see the results of our Superior Snow, and get a behind the scenes look at how we do it.

This winter you’ll also see an expanded Burton Lil’ Stash, featuring new rollers, berms, and animal carvings in this popular Paul Bunyan-themed terrain park. We’re also introducing the Learner’s Club Card, a tool that makes learning to ski or ride easier and more economical than ever before.

If you come across a story idea you’d like to discuss, feel free to shoot me an email or give me a call. I’d love to show you around the mountain.
