Loon Mountain Junior Seasonal Program

The Junior Seasonal Program is a branch of the award-winning Loon Mountain Ski & Snowboard School, and feeder program to our rapidly growing Snowboard & Alpine Freeride Competition Team.  This camp is specifically designed for kids 7 - 17 years old who are early intermediate to expert skiers and riders.  We focus on teaching and experiencing the joys of learning and mastering all the conditions and challenging situations the mountain can offer.

This early intermediate to expert level program combines the most effective aspects of all skiing and snowboarding disciplines for a truly one of a kind, all mountain experience. Talented and experienced coaching is provided to help kids work through a progression of skills specifically designed to develop proficiency in all conditions and situations including mastering steeps, bumps, off piste (tree skiing), pipe and park education and etiquette for introduction to competition.  Fun special events and social functions occur throughout the season. Tools such as the Skiport and Snowport cards allow parents to keep up with the curriculum of the program and provide a way to initiate communication between parents and their children.

Luke Shelley, an experienced and award-winning freerider will again lead a team of talented coaches who are passionate about the sports of skiing and snowboarding and who are dedicated to helping your child reach their maximum potential while creating memories and friends that will last a lifetime. Groups are formed daily based on skill, age and skiing / riding intensity.

Loon's Exclusive Adventure Zones provide a fun and educational venue for kids to learn about their sport, themselves and the history of Loon Mountain and the logging heritage that started it all.

Seasonal Camps start on December 16, 2006 and continue every weekend and designated holiday period until March 25, 2007 providing up to 39 days of on snow coaching. Holiday periods include: Christmas Week 12/25/06 - 12/29/06, Martin Luther King Day 01/15/07 and President's Week 02/19/07 - 02/23/07.

Please note that programs do not meet on Christmas Day 12/25/06.

During peak periods, groups may be combined making it a reasonable expectation to see larger than normal groups during these periods.  With children's groups, every effort is made to keep kids with a consistent coach throughout the winter.  However, due to illness, injury or events beyond our control, groups may need to be periodically substituted at times.

Kids will enjoy lunch in their private dining facility located adjacent to the Deli.  There, groups will rotate in and out at a pre-scheduled time for a good hot lunch to energize them for more action on the mountain.   Please, no parents in this facility.

Your child may have the opportunity to switch disciplines, whether it be from skiing to snowboarding, or vice versa.  The program director can provide the necessary details on this component, due to high volume constraints.   This "switch" option will not be available during peak days.

Kids 13-15 will enjoy our Junior Instructor Training component, which dovetails with PSIA's new 15 Below Instructor orientation initiative.   Kids interested in learning to become an instructor can gain the skills necessary and become "Jr Members" of PSIA Professional Ski Instructors of America and actually assist Loon's instructors during peak days.  Not only will their own skiing skills improve, they will learn the ins and outs of leadership, combined with the art and science of teaching skiing.  Once kids turn 16, they will become eligible to join the Loon Mountain Children's Ski School as a full-fledged instructor.  Price of this program does not include PSIA 15 Below membership fees.  Details of this program will be provided from the Program Director early in the season.
