Horseback Rides

Horseback Rides at LoonEnjoy the spectacular White Mountains on horseback and learn about local lore and the area's lumber industry heritage with stories of the lumber barons, lumberjacks, and more. Please note that all ride times are approximate.

The Mountain Adventure: Billy "The Bear" Boyle - architect of "Dugway Roads", the durable logging roads that were built into the mountains and are still visible today. Ride time is approximately 1 hour.
Price: $50/pp

The Mountain Explorer:
East Branch & Lincoln Railroad- 1893-1948 - Held in high regard by trappers, lumberjacks, foresters, fisherman, and conservationists. The EB& L is the one logging line which today is closer to more memories and dearer to more hearts than all other White Mountain Carriers put together. Ride time is approximately 2 hours.
Price: $ 85/pp

The Mountain Journey: The J.E. Henry Lumber Camps - spread over the multi-thousand-acre Pemigewasset wilderness during the years from 1893 to the 1940s, they were the most portable lumber camps. Using clear cutting as his main timber harvesting method, J.E. Henry became one of the wealthiest, most influential lumber barons of his time. However, his methods proved disastrous to the very wilderness he harvested and because of this, he was ultimately responsible for the creation of the White Mountain National Forest. Ride time is approximately 3 hours.
Price: $120/pp

Pony Rides: Located in the Loon Mountain base area. Participants must be under 8 yrs. old and able to sit unaided. Rides are approximately 10 minutes.
Price: $10/pp

Trail and Pony Ride General Information

  • Hours of Operation: 9:00 am to 4:00 pm daily from June 26th through October 11th (except 9/17-19 for New Hampshire Highland Games; status for 9/24-26 is TBD for Nor’Easter)
  • All rides will go out on demand based on availability. Reservations are accepted and encouraged. Please call 603-745-8111 x 5454.
  • No specific scheduled times for rides. It is on a first-come, first -served basis based on available horses. If someone wants to reserve a time slot, we will do our best to accommodate.
  • Rides are for all abilities (no distinction between beginner, intermediate, and advanced rides)
  • Participants must be at least of 8 yrs. old and a minimum of 48" tall.
  • Weight limit 250 lbs.
  • Rides subject to change due to inclement weather & safety conditions. Please call 603-745-8111 x 5454 to check status.
