Finding a new home on the east coast the National Disabled Ski Hall of Fame comes to New England Disabled Sports at Loon Mountain.
The National Disabled Ski Hall of Fame was created by the Disabled Sports USA and the National Sports Center for the Disabled in Winter Park Colorado in 1995. For the past 15 years the hall has resided at Winter Park Ski Resort and the Colorado Ski Museum in Vail. The hall was created to honor individuals who have had an influential role in disabled sports as well as athletes who have excelled in disabled sports. The hall consists of famed pictures and biographies of the inductees as well as examples of adaptive equipment used for skiing. The hall honors achievements in adaptive sports over the last 40 years.
“Disabled Sports USA and US Paralympics are proud to have the National Disabled Ski Hall of Fame housed at New England Disabled Sports at Loon Mountain and the Franconia Notch Area.” Said Dr. Bob Harney, National Vice President of Disabled Sports USA, “This is the area where Diana Golden, the first inductee, learned to ski as a child. She went on to become world class and the Diana Golden race series is named in her honor.”
New England Disabled Sports at Loon Mountain offers year round sports and recreational opportunities in the greater New England area. “New England Disabled Sports is honored to house the National Disabled Ski Hall of Fame” said Rob Mueller, Managing Director with New England Disabled Sports. “We are looking forward to preserving the history of the most influential individuals in adaptive skiing.”
