Lincoln, NH: That famous movie line, "If you build it, they
will come," rings true for Loon
Mountain Park, New England's #1 rated terrain park. Loon
Mountain Park rated tops in the East, and North America, for its
terrain park, superpipe and overall atmosphere
in the 2006 Transworld Snowboard reader's poll.
"Loon's attention to detail and over-the-top efforts to put together a successful event puts them above the rest."
"We work with resorts all over the country from large scale events to simple one-day promotional set ups," said Barb Hamblett, Managing Director of Mountain Sports International. "Loon's attention to detail and over-the-top efforts to put together a successful event puts them above the rest. They see the big picture and know what it takes to get the job done. We look forward to working with Jay and his crew at Loon each season."
"It is really rewarding to design, build, and ride the Loon Mountain Park," said Scambio. "Our crew is amazing to work with and it's really a team effort on all fronts. Plus, the Loon management team has always supported where we want to take the LMP, the Superpipe and our other four smaller parks."
Loon Mountain gives advanced and expert riders a great place to ride, and the resort has gone a long way to accommodate and promote a successful learning environment. Working with Burton Snowboards, Loon introduced the first-in-the East Burton Progression Park (BPP) in December of 2005. Located on the Little Sister Trail, the Burton Progression Park has scaled-down versions of the same elements found in the LMP.
"One of its main purposes was for the Loon Snowsports School to have a place to teach lessons about proper park etiquette and technique," commented Scambio. "We now see a lot of kids hang out in the BPP because we are continuously maintaining the elements there just as we do in the LMP. It's kind of become the cool place to chill."
And for those who have mastered the Burton Progression Park, but are still not yet comfortable with the LMP, there is the Northstar Intermediate Park or one of Loon's pocket parks. Pocket parks are located on Bear Island Bypass, Summit Loop and the top of Lower Picked Rock. Designated by the freestyle terrain orange oval signs, these smaller parks have an intermediate to advanced ability rating. These parks are smaller in size and scope and usually include two or three rail slides. Riders can look for new set-ups every two weeks throughout the winter.
Younger and less experienced pipe riders can head over to Lower Northstar's mini-pipe.
It's not just all about the parks at Loon. Loon Mountain offers great terrain variety and its 450-ft superpipe has been awarded best Pipe in the East by Transworld Snowboarding. Located at the bottom of the LMP, just above the entrance to the Gondola, the Superpipe keeps riders busy all day long. In February, Loon will host Fluorescent Nights - three nights of pipe riding under the lights.
