Monster Mud Run at Loon Mountain

JULY 11, 2015

Monster Mud Run: A fiendishly filthy 5K that will crush your quads - but not your spirit.

Home to some of the muddiest, gnarliest terrain in New Hampshire's White Mountains, the fifth annual Monster Mud Run will spank you with more than 20 obstacles and 1,000 feet of climbing over 3.1 rugged miles. Along the way you'll crawl through culverts, drag snowmaking hoses through the mud, and swim across a snowmaking pond guaranteed to give you a full-body brain freeze. Past racers have called the Monster Mud Run the toughest obstacle course race in New Hampshire - and for good reason.

But there are a few things you won't find at the Monster Mud Run. You won't find 12,000 other runners crowding the course, big egos, or ridiculous fees for parking and spectators. The Monster Mud Run is enough of a challenge; we don't want all those other obstacles slowing you down.

Once you finish the Monster Mud Run, you'll be able to relax, listen to live music, and enjoy a perfectly muddy summer afternoon. Even kids will get in on the action with the Mini Monsters Run, a pint-sized obstacle course perfect for aspiring mudletes. Full schedule here

Who is the Monster Mud Run for?

The course offers an intense challenge for elite and novice racers alike, testing runners with classic obstacles like Snowmaking Boot Camp, Plunge of Paul Bunyan, and The Superpuke. The Monster Mud Run is also a gimmick-free race, so you won't find any obstacles involving underwater tunnels or electric shocks. We want you to have fun, not fry.

As one racer described the Monster Mud Run, "Having done about 12 Spartan Races, 2 Warrior Dashes and 1 Tough Mudder, the Monster Mud Run can hang with the big guys in the OCR world. This race is perfect for a veteran OCR athlete to a newbie looking to try their first one."

Heats & Divisions

To ensure that all group members run in the same heat, we encourage you to sign up together. Heats begin at 9:30 a.m. and continue every 15 minutes until the final heat at 11:45 a.m. To ensure a top-quality race experience, heats are capped at 75 racers. Racers who sign-up at the event will only have the option of racing in the heats 10:15am through 11:45am; based on availability.

There are four racing divisions: Male (Individual), Female (Individual), Duo (2), and Team (4). Each racer will receive a time and prizes will be awarded to the top 3 finishers in each division. Racers' times will be combined for Duo and Team divisions. Second and third place finishers will win prizes from the Woodstock Inn, Station & Brewery, WSI Sports and Snap Infusion Supercandy.

I Want a Hatchet!

Run fast, Grasshopper! First place finishers in each division will take home the now-famous Monster Mud Run hatchet, which will look excellent mounted on - or embedded in - your wall at home.

Costume Contest

As a team, duo, or on your own, dress up in your wildest outfit that you don't mind soiling (with mud, of course). The best costumes will be judged by the Monster Mud Run staff, so make them good!

Best Team Name/Duo Name

With past gems like "Mudweiser" and "Angry French Toast Mafia" we just had to create an award for best team name. Start flexing those brain cells now so you and your teammate(s) could be crowned the winners.

Free Kids Run

We like to call kids "Mini-Monsters" and we've set-up a scaled-down version of the Monster Mud Run course for those 13 & under. It's free to run and starts at 1:00pm. The first kids 100 to register will receive a special gift. Mini-Monsters must have a parent/guardian present to read and complete the liability release & agreement.
